patent advice

A patent is a legal document which protects the technical and functional aspects of novel products and processes from being copied or exploited by third parties, without patent owner’s permission.

Generally speaking, a patent provides protection for twenty years from the date of filing of the patent application.

IRT’s personnel have considerable experience in dealing with all aspects of patents and can assist clients with patent drafting, patent applications, patent searches, dealings with Patent Office, technical and other queries from patent examiners, etc.

IRT also can assist its clients in establishing whether or not their invention is likely to infringe an already-existing patent or, where appropriate, what changes could be made to the invention to make it less likely to infringe.

IRT’s services do not take the place of those offered by chartered patent agents; rather, IRT works in partnership with their clients chosen patent agent.
