In addition to client-specific research projects, we also undertake innovative development research for our own product portfolio. Some examples of our current portfolio are listed below.

IRT owns technology for the production of an adduct of hydrogen peroxide which can be used in the formulation of household products.  The incorporation of this adduct donates a significant bleaching effect to the finished formulation.  Importantly, in aqueous solution our adduct is stable at a much higher pH value than that which normally is associated with stable peroxide-based liquids.

This in turn helps to give a faster and more efficient bleaching effect when compared to products which currently are available.

Until now it has not been possible to incorporate a “suitable” bleach in aqueous laundry liquids; the end-products always were unstable or too aggressive.  IRT can offer stable formulations of aqueous laundry liquids which contain a hydrogen peroxide-based bleaching system and which are fully stable under normal storage conditions.

One particularly important recent invention by IRT is the formulation of a completely new adduct of hydrogen peroxide which, when used in tooth-bleaching preparations, offers many advantages over the products which currently are available.

Three of the main advantages are:

• a much faster reaction time
• a similar performance profile with the use of a much lower inclusion level
• the prevention of the build-up of plaque

There also is evidence that our adduct provides a structural base for tooth remineralisation.
